silver lake meadow III: le birthday picnic!
at this point, we cheeks are picnic professionals. it's our thing. and at this stage of parenthood it's the easiest way for us to 'eat out.' but it didn't happen overnight. does anything really happen like that? maybe i am being too literal but i hate that saying! anyway, we've had some practice dining on grass, al fresco. i even blogged about it here and here. so we felt ready to take on the ultimate picnic challenge: le birthday picnic. da-da-dum. when planning max's party i toyed around with different ideas and locations, but a picnic just seemed perfect. because like i said, it's our thing!
a few photos from maxwell's third birthday picnic...
so what really separates a regular old picnic from a birthday one is a theme. oh how i love a theme! and for this party landing on one was simple: PLANES. because if you've been following along you know the boys are kind of obsessed.
also balloons. it ain't a cheek party without 'em.
whatcha doin'?
parties of any kind can be rough. exhausting to say the least. but the best part of having a party was being reunited with max's little friends. a few of them had been attending the same daycare since he was 3 months old. most of them have moved or switched schools so it's great to get together again.
have i mentioned how windy it gets at the meadow? well it does. normally i cannot stand the wind (my hair!). but it was a plane party after all. we brought toy planes, gliders + kites for everyone to play with. the meadow was perfect for this.
THEME PEOPLE.
the octopus kite was a hit.
especially when its tentacles tore off. the kids took turns running with the bright red lengths of synthetic fabric.
thanks to this guy for assembling everything!
... and this moment with the ladybug was so cute.
... plus lots of mama rides today for my little birthday boy!
... with me he can fly!
... and sure knox... climb aboard. i got this.
... dang. maybe i don't.
... and then we crashed.
josh always makes it look so easy!
and lastly, the extreme challenge: a family photo. here's the best of the bunch. i mean literally we took a whole bunch.
xoxo, picnic professionals
