silver lake meadow + a picnic fail

image.jpg

it was a gorgeous sunday. i got to work out with my favorite australians. and josh got to sleep in. we were on a winning streak! so sure, let's try a picnic. the kids can run around and eat cheese + crackers until they pass out while we sit back and relax. maybe have a drink or two.

it did not go down like that. it wasn't terrible but we gave it a grade of C- and left with a mental list of things we'll remember for next time. we should really start writing them down because even now i can only think of four things.

1. don't leave your sense of humor at home. this is where i failed miserably as a wife + mama and really let the messy chaos get to me. it just was not going to be a chill picnic and i needed chill out about it (hey, didn't i blab about this already?!);

2. bring some sort of table or hard placemat. this because kids are effing messy! and somehow seeing food on the ground (the picnic blanket) makes them think of food as toys not just meant for consumption. UGH;

3. towels. for said clean up. wipes and napkins don't always cut it; and

4. bring entertainment. a ball would have been GREAT.

ANYWAY.

despite not going quite as well as hoped we still had a great time. a few photos of the happier moments!

what's a picnic without cheese? the boys are partial (no, obsessed with string cheese) but we decided to throw some laughing cow at them. literally. no just kidding.

max loved it on his veggie chips! my mind instantly flashed forward to when he and i can share a cheese board.... and a glass of vino! please let me have that one, universe!

yea we didn't sit much. so was this a picnic even? lol.

the kiddos were pretty fascinated by this kite... mental note to self.

they even let us lie down and watch it dance in the wind.

before crawling all over us.

and you don't even want to know how many tries it took to get this photo. 3. but practice makes perfect. the saying also applies to picnics.
