love at about 800 feet

so i don't know what's on your bucket list, but mine starts pretty easy and works its way up to damn near impossible. for example: top of the list: drinks with david bowie. sniff, sniff. upper middle: vacation in montreal. done! and now bottom of the list: hike pretty high up a griffith park trail with my love on valentine's day (and children cuz ain't nobody want to babysit on valentine's day), and share a split of bubbly once we were as secluded and far away possible from any person of authority (offspring aside).

and then relish the hell out of that moment.

and that is precisely what we did. we chose to hike the amir's garden trail based on this dude's review of it. thank you hiker dude. this was the perfect setting to make my bottom-of-the-bucket list dream come true.

but first! time for valentine's! josh got me a completely random heartfelt card with actual flowers and full sentences in cursive on it. i got him something much more abbreviated since, ahem, i totally already blogged about it. and this adorably tiny and hilarious book of short stories i picked up at the la art book fair. more on that later.

amir's garden is one the many trails within griffith park. but i gotta say this one is my favorite. for one, you don't have to go that far before you are super high up, and you don't have to hike very far in before the pay off. the pay off being intermingling trails that bob and weave and reconnect and loop around and around. and it's just delightful. the brush is very beautiful. lots of purple and white flowers, lush trees and succulents.

josh didn't like the carvings in the cactus but i didn't mind it at all. i woulda done it too had sergio and christian not beaten me to it. so i'll do it here.

oh hi guys! yea. josh and i took turns carrying max the whole time. how i longed for the bjorn days.

he made it up to us by periodically picking us flowers. yea, i know you're probably not supposed to but it was valentine's day and i'm sure that makes it totally ok.

this place is really loved and taken good care of. the vibes were kind of unreal.

and then "flew" down the mountain. because down is so much easier than up. and knox relished the hell out of it. and i'll do just about anything to make that kid smile.
