a book fair + the ongoing quest for the most crowded places in LA

image.jpg

if you've been following along here, it's no secret we cheeks are always on the move. there's just so much to do in this amazing city! and holiday weekends are no exception. rather, we are busier than normal, which is to say i still may be recovering from it all. and while there where times when i really just wanted to check out from everything and everyone, i checked myself instead. counted to ten backwards or whatever and repeated my latest mantra: chill out. seems obvious but i'm using the phrase more and more since i adopted a new rule for 2016. the rule is to never complain about a situation that i created or planned, which is about 99% of what we cheeks do. like going to the la art book fair on the same day every hipster in town had the same idea. we still had fun though. and that was just the beginning of our day.

it was a long day.

10, 9, 8...

arial view. thank you handi-ramps!

and from the floor where i spent much of my time.

image.jpg

no complaints here! this year i call these mommy moments. hashtag alert.

image.jpg

oh hi there! what great use of color, no?

image.jpg

so a bit about this shindig! the la art book fair is presented by printed matter, a non-profit organization "dedicated to the dissemination, understanding and appreciation of artsists' books." the fourth annual event held at the geffen contemporary museum at moca easily saw over 34k people skim through a unique variety of artists' books, catelogs, monographs, periodicals and the like. the event also hosted a bunch of after bed time and offsite events if you're in to that kind of thing. NOT ME. NOT AT ALL.

that was sarcasm in case you missed it.

tapes and tapes and lyrics to "six pack" by black flag.

all my ex-boyfriends.

image.jpg

and one last view from the top. and i was outta goldfish so it was time to peace out.

image.jpg

we thought we'd ditch the crowd for a hot minute.

literally. it was a hot day per usual in LA...

image.jpg

and then thought oh where's the fun in that?! nah, let's stroll through crowded af olvera street. because i like bright things and the smell of tacos! and crowds apparently!

say hello to my new + old huaraches. i have wanted a pair for some time and could no longer live a day without my own. the laces are removable, too. genius!

image.jpg

ps. olvera street is like two blocks long...

image.jpg

so of course maxwell preferred to make the trip via mama-plane

it was a fun mommy moment. no counting required!

and can you believe it. almost 4pm and not a single bit of normal food ingested. we headed straight for wursrkΓΌche because it was the most crowded place we could think of. more sarcasm people. no, it was the fries and beer that drew us in. and condiments (the curry ketchup is the best!). the butcher paper and crayons didn't hurt either.

image.jpg

and finally. home. after the kids went to bed josh and i enjoyed some time to ourselves and decided to finally fiddle with my christmas present, a fujifilm mini instax camera. this thing is seriously fun and our first photos came out pretty good if i do say so myself.

oh yea. somewhere in between the crowds and condiments we took the kids to their first parade. more on that later. for now hello sunshine signing is off. over and out!
