second haircut!
***
writing this post has been a bit of a mess. almost as big of a mess as the haircuts that led to this potentially bad read. you see, it's a pretty straight forward tale: the boys got a real hack job from my mom while babysitting. she apparently doesn't appreciate a good side bang the way i do. we then got them proper cuts, you know, by actual professionals. and that's kind of it. except not really?

maxwell + knox have great hair; thick, full, and the perfect shades of light and dark brown. and i take great mama pride in that. I GAVE them that full head of quarter puerto rican hair.
future spouses to my boys, you are welcome!
their hair is one thing i don't have to worry about the way I worry about what they will be when they grow up and when will maxwell just sit on the dang potty. i don't take any wins for granted.
momlife.
so yea, the kids had good hair helmet. life was good.
and then my mom gave them really bad haircuts. without warning, permission or sheer common sense. here's the story:
while babysitting for us a few months ago, my mom decided max + knox's hair was too long. so she cut it. as far as i know she's never even done a diy bang trim. so this was baaaaaad. it looked like the end battle between rhyme, reason, and cooperation on their heads. i think i even screamed when i saw them. sorry about that one little dudes. they had no idea how bad their hair looked but i wanted to DIE. she and i didn't speak for a few days. in fact, i think she ignored me first. she knew. but to be fair (as my editor suggests, pfft!), she also knew they couldn't see with hair in their faces so...
i finally got over it because she's my mom and FREE BABYSITTER. and this was at least a problem that could be fixed. i asked a friend for a recommendation on a salon for kids and she quickly replied, "yellow balloon in studio city! and go to susan, she is the best!"
like the wind, bullseye! on it. see you sunday at 11:15 susan!
the day came and josh and i were pretty nervous. we weren't sure how it was gonna go down. max can be pretty stubborn and knox rarely sits still. but the salon was filled with toys, bright primary colors, cartoon decals and, of course, yellow balloons. they had a blast and we couldn't help but beam with happiness and relief. it was a great parental moment. and their haircuts were awesome. i didn't think i would blog about it but after that visit we kept talking about the experience and how we couldn't wait to go back. and since it became such a special memory for us, i decided to share our second visit.
so this story has a happy ending. and a few photos...
dinos still go roar! try as i might roar is just plain old funner to say than dinosaur. i keep trying though!
CANDY! luckily the boys didn't ask for any. dodged a bullet there!
nothing is ever just a quarter anymore wah wah.
buzz came along too! and a couple others came home with us on accident. but we left with a few of our own troops missing so i'm sure it worked out fair and square.
the name of the game: DISTRACTION.
knox fell asleep just before his appointment so i had the joy of waking him up LOL. thank whoever a mini mouse doll was nearby. mini is kind of his absolute favorite.
thomas is a close tenth place. knox is totally playing it cool in this shot but i think they both know when they look good.
and... as advertised.
YELLOW BALLOONS!!
ok and some candy.... DURRRRRR....
and then this happened!
and kept happening. until max realized what was happening. memories you guys!
cheeky.
aerial view!
the end.
